MIGRATION: An Exploration in Art, Words & Music, inspired by Jacob Lawrence

This two week show will feature work by Kent County Public School visual art students. The work was inspired by a visit the students took to view Jacob Lawrence’s  Migration Series at The Philips Collection in Washington, DC.

The artwork will be on view October 31 through November 11.

Opening reception: Friday, November 2, 5 – 8 pm
Gallery Talk, Thursday, November 8, 5:30

The exhibit is  a partnership with the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre and the Kent County Arts Council .

In 2016 The Phillips Collection in Washington DC commissioned Playwright and Producing Artistic Director Jacqueline E. Lawton, Assistant Professor of Theater, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, to create an evening of short plays based on the Great Migration series painted by famed African American painter, Jacob Lawrence.

On November 1-4, 2018 the Garfield Center for the Arts will present the five plays.
Thursday – Saturday, Nov 1-3, at 7 pm and Sunday, Nov 4, at 3 pm.

Visitors are encouraged to view the work in the gallery and then walk over to the Garfield Center to see the plays.
