Want to learn how to use that fancy camera you have? Want to learn how to take pictures you will be proud to hang on your wall?  An SLR ( Single lens reflex) camera is fully adjustable in aperture and shutter speeds and accepts interchangeable lenses.

This 4 week  class is appropriate for beginners and intermediate skill levels but it will be aimed at the beginner.  The main emphasis will be to get students off of the automatic mode and begin to use the more creative options of aperture priority, shutter priority and manual modes.

We will also discuss exposure in detail and learn to use the digital cameras histogram ( graph) to produce perfectly exposed photographs. We will also be looking at composition in detail so students will be able to design their photographs in a more  artistic way

Assignments will be given at the end of each class and we will do compositional critique at the beginning of each subsequent class.

Students should bring DSLR cameras and manuals to class
A DSLR camera ( digital single lens reflex) usually has  full manual control and interchangeable lenses.

By the end of the class, you should be able to:

  • Adjust cameras menus for white balance, iso, and quality.
  • Use a shooting mode other than automatic when taking pictures
  • Understand and be able to use the concept of depth of field
  • Set shutter speed and aperture to create creative photos
  • Use at least 12 compositional techniques
