Beginner’s Pottery Wheel Spring
April 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. PLEASE CHECK BACK FOR MORE TRY-IT CLASSES THIS SPRING.
This is your opportunity to learn how to create functional bowls, cups, and vases on the potter’s wheel. In our eight-week introductory class with Marilee Schumann, you will learn the basics of clay preparation, steps for throwing a pot on the wheel, finishing techniques, and glaze application. This course is designed for people with a healthy curiosity, those who dabbled in school, and those who wish to go back to the basics to refine best practices for the pottery process (beginning to end).
You will create several finished pieces during the class. You will have access to open studio time seven days of the week to complete classwork, practice, and pursue your own clay interests. Open studio is especially useful for new potters and it is recommended to schedule extra time in your week to attend open studio in addition to coming to class. There is a small kiln/glaze fee for completed wares.
Included in cost of class is one 25lb Bag Brown Clay as well as eight Open Studio Tickets. You will have the opportunity to purchase a Kemper tool kit for $27 on the first night (trimming tool, needle, sponge, etc.). Feel free to bring your own pottery tools or purchase them beforehand. RiverArts Clay Studio does have a limited number of basic tools for you to share.
After you complete this beginner course, you are invited to continue as an open clay studio member at only $10 per visit. If you are not already a RiverArts member, sign up today for added savings. This class would make a perfect gift.
Age Restrictions: 16-116
