Instructor: Doug Sassi
RA Clay Studio
204 High Street, Chestertown
Registration Deadline: July 13
The class will teach hand building techniques starting with pinch pots. After that experience, the class will move on to making forms using the coil technique. This is a method of constructing larger forms which can be functional (vases, lidded jars, lamps) as well as sculptural. A further mode of working in clay is to roll out slabs on the machine and construct forms which are, like the coil technique, either functional or sculptural. It is even possible to combine all the above forming techniques in a single piece.
Well-known in Kent County as “THE Potter,” Doug has been making pottery for 50 years! and maintains a studio in Still Pond. Doug taught high school ceramics for 27 years and has retired to resume being a full-time studio potter. His teaching experience means he can instruct beginners as well as more advanced students.
Fees: Tuition includes your first 25 lbs of clay and first bisque firing. There is an extra fee for glaze firings dependent on the size of your pieces.
