Gift Shop Artists of the Month February
Holly Geddes and Ronnie Edelman are Gift Shop Artists of the Month.
Holly Geddes started her career as a portrait and landscape photographer in Denver, Colorado. While there, she studied Folk Art under Pricilla Hauser, MDA and Becky Hillwertz . She is one of the charter members of the Denver Chapter of what was called The National Tole and Decorative Painters Association. (It is now called The Society of Decorative Painters). She also studied oil painting under Carolyn Nies, an eminent Western artist. Mrs. Geddes had learned photographic techniques from an award winning amateur photographer Rosario Granados Hill and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute. Upon moving to Rockville, Maryland, she enrolled in Montgomery College in the field of Studio Art. She taught beginner and intermediate tole painting at Brown’s Gallery in Poolesville, Maryland.
Over the years, Holly Geddes has participated in local shows both in Colorado and Maryland. As a public school teacher, Mrs. Geddes designed and implemented the Website of Forest Oak Middle School and won four, unsolicited national awards for design of a school based site. These included Web Feet for school media specialists, Surfer Award for educators, and MidLink Magazine Cool School Award.
The work of Holly Geddes shows the strong influence of photography and decorative painting both in the natural colors and fine detail she uses. She is still exploring the variety of techniques using a variety of painting media including pen & ink, oils, water color, pastels and glass paint. Her projects range from landscapes, still-lifes and portraits to decorative painting on furniture and small gift items including greeting cards. She also decorates walls with a variety of faux styles and finishes and murals. Recently she has focused on pastels because of the vibrancy and subtly of the color that media permits. She has studied in a plein air environment with Jack Pardue and Mary Pritchard, pastel artists, and Giovanni Casadei, oil painting artist.
Holly Geddes has shown her work at various shows in Kentlands and Chestertown, Maryland. She is also a regular contributor to the shows in the Chestertown Arts League. She was juried into the 2008 & 2009 “Local Color Show” as part of Plein Air Easton. She served The Chestertown Arts League (now becoming the Chestertown River Arts) in various offices including 2 years as president. She is currently a regular in the Pure Pigment Painters plein air group. She accepts commissions to decorate furniture, walls, cabinets and gifts as well as pastel, water color or oil paintings on a variety of subjects.
You can reach Holly at 443-282-0205 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
