Award-winning sculptor, potter and educator, Marilee Schumann, will share her expertise with beginner clay students in our beautiful new Clay Studio at 204 High Street in Chestertown. Beginners learn to make basic forms of functional ceramics on the potters wheel, including glazing. Focus will be on aesthetics, craftsmanship, and personal expression. Students should wear clothes that can get messy, bring a towel, a beverage, and a sense of humor. Register now!
Fees: Tuition includes your first 25 lbs of clay and first glaze firing. There is an extra fee for subsequent glaze firings dependent on the size of your pieces. Beginning students will need a tool kit which is available for purchase at the first meeting. Approximate cost of kit is $15.
About the Instructor
Marilee Schumann has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of Maryland and taught ceramics at Washington College, Chestertown, where she did her undergraduate studies. Functional and decorative ceramic vessels with contemporary style and elegant glazes are a specialty, although her work encompasses cast metal, mixed media constructions and even rustic furniture. Marilee has exhibited widely, including at Artworks and RiverArts, and has received numerous awards for her art.
